Your new house has a pre-existing home security system
Many times after you purchase a new house, you’ll find that the previous owners used a smart home system. All the components function well, are placed in the right places, and are ready to go. In this instance, all you might have to do is to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint installer will still show up to ensure there are no compatibility problems, and they could offer ideas on an upgrade or two. It's a preliminary visit, and you can have your 24/7 monitoring set up without paying for any new devices -- unless you get some new devices.
The outgoing owners can transfer an existing Vivint contract to your family for a small set-up cost to make the process easier. If the owners are downsizing to a condo or retirement community, transferring the home security service might be an addendum of the sale.
You want to move and bring your old equipment with you
You might need to bring along your favorite smart devices with you to your new place when you move. It should be fairly easy to transfer, as many alarms and smart devices are plug and play. You can uninstall each component by yourself or call a professional expert to take care of everything. Then a pro will hang the same devices -- and any new devices you want -- in your new house. The home security contract will remain the same.
